Actually, the symbol for the colonies is the phoenix. And that fits with the motif: “All this has happened before…’ Each wing of the phoenix represents a colony. The phoenix is born, lives for a time, builds its nest, is consumed in fire and reborn from the ashes. This is in keeping with the theme of repetition in BSG. What I can’t fathom is that how people have been missing this point from the beginning. The cycle of time repeats, continually.

Thanks for the comments! Yes, I wrote this quite a few episodes before the end of season 3.

I fully intend on writing a second part, and hope to get it written before this half of season 4 finishes. There certainly is plenty to add!

I unfortunately sent Eye of Jupiter back to netflix before I noticed something later. Chief Tyrol, when he’s translating the runes on the great pillar in the Temple of Five, briefly references something over the wireless about night and a beating heart.

These are elements from the text written on Starbuck’s apartment wall next to her own mandala!

Has anyone translated those runes? Starbuck painting a blob similar to an ancient pattern is one thing…but writing out text line for line? That’s hardcore!

Love this show! You’ve done an excellent job of describing what’s so wonderful about it. Unfortunately, I feel like I miss most of what’s “between the lines.” The show could be an entire college course! So, I keep watching and paying attention.

I stumbled upon your article after experiencing a revelation (for me) that the Colonial Fleet seal was a Cylon raider encircled by the Eye of Jupiter. You stated in your article, “It is often surprising what is hidden in plain sight.” This is what I felt after seeing that seal throughout the series for years – and suddenly the symbols pop out at me.

I sought other info about this online and you are apparently the only person who has discovered this symbolism in the show. What a thought-provoking article. Thanks for the many insights.
