Binaural Beat MP3 Downloads

——————————————————-

Audio and binaural beats are probably not the first thing that comes to mind when the word meditation is mentioned, indeed many people may not even be aware of binaural beats. When talking of meditation, it is easy to think of monks sitting in a mountain somewhere or maybe under a tree, whiling away hour after hour in a perfectly still pose. Whilst that is a perfectly valid form of meditation, modern technology makes a number of other options available to us. And that’s neat as we don’t all have large mountains in the backyard.

Sometimes meditation comes easy, and other times it doesn’t. In either case there are many techniques that can give us a bit of assistance, as well as some methods that give a few gentle nudges, which quite neatly brings us onto the subject of binaural beats.

Discovered in 1839, binaural beats is a form of audio usage employed to alter brainwave frequency. Using headphones two audio streams are sent to a listener, one stream to the left ear the other to the right (binaural). There is a very small difference in frequency between the two audio streams, and as the brain is unable to perceive this difference it in essence merges the sound into a single tone, resulting in what – to the listener – sounds like a rhythmatic beat.

The nice little thing is that – whilst listening to this beat – the brain will attune itself to these binaural frequencies if it can. As the brain operates at various frequencies; Alpha, Beta, Theta and Delta – these are commonly the frequencies used by binaural beat audio. Each of the mentioned frequencies relates to a state of consciousness / awareness, as illustrated below:

*Beta* – the common brain frequency when awake and active.
*Alpha* – as you relax you switch to this frequency.
*Theta* – you enter the theta state when dreaming; theta state can also give visions during meditation.
*Delta* – deep sleep.

When you listen to a binaural beat whilst meditating it will help move you to the frequency of the tone you have chosen. For example if you listen to a Theta beat whilst meditating you will quite quickly move into a theta state. If you are attentive, and continue to allow your mind and body to relax, you will notice the transition happen pretty quickly, though fairly subtly. In this state you can experience deep meditation as well as the occasional visions when you become more adapt.

Of course using binaural beats isn’t a magic solution, it still requires work on your part. Well lack of work would be a more apt description, you must be able to dissociate from your mind and inner voice or else you will not get very far. However the binaural beat should help you to do this.

I have included a binaural tone at the top of this page…this particular tone is designed to carry you from an attentive state (Beta) through relaxation and eventually into theta. The tones work best if you use headphones rather than earphones – but earphones are still ok. Normal speakers will not work as the sound needs to be directed to each ear separately. The volume needn’t be loud, simply adjust it to whatever you are comfortable with.

Find yourself a relaxing location and position, or do whatever you normally do to meditate – and begin to play back this audio. Some people will notice their mind slowing down almost straight away – but do not worry if you feel nothing. The idea of meditation isn’t necessarily to “go somewhere”, but rather to fully experience where you already are.

As the sound progresses, try not to pay attention to your thoughts – don’t fight them but also try not to associate with them, simply let them come and go of their own accord. Also try not to label your reactions. Simply experience what is occurring within you.

In time you will find you can attain deeper and deeper states. Eventually without even the need for the audio.

Most of the brain sync tracks on this site have kindly been provided by Brainwave-Sync. Check out their site, they have quite a selection of tracks that may interest you.

Other than that, there is Hemi-Sync as well as Holo-Sync, most of their stuff is very good – however they are very expensive.

Thanks for the binaural beat audio file. I found it very effective but I think I would like it better if it was mixed with a soothing music or bells.

when we become in theta state how do we get back to normal consciousness(beta)?

Our brains are switching between frequencies constantly (in fact our brains are always in a constant state of different frequencies at the same time, with usually one or two dominant ones).

Listening to the theta audio for example, helps the theta frequency become the dominant one. The moment you stop listening you brain will automatically switch to another frequency. Beta if you are active, alpha if you are relaxed of delta if you are sleeping.

Chris, you will still be fully aware and functional no matter which frequency state you are in. :)

I am looking to find different tracks that will help me require less sleep, another for focus and alertness.

are there any good ones that have the raw beta waves? most that i find seem to have music overlays, and i find the raw beats are more effective for me.

Ravenhood, I recommend trying http://www.habit-breaker.net – they have a small range of products at the moments, but their CDs and MP3s concentrate more on the raw waves as opposed to the music. Although their audio is overlaid with nature sounds etc, the waves are very prominent making them very, very effective. Have a look at their site and check the samples they have available.

I believe their CD called ‘Wake-up!’ contains beta waves.

Thanks for the free download. I had all sorts of interesting phenomena the first time i listened to this theta mp3. Strange and beautiful dream visions; intense intuitions about myself, the nature of energy, the nature of symbolic thought, etc. Sometimes it was a little scary, but i focused on staying conscious and reminding myself that it was all good. I’m very intrigued and intend to continue listening to this.

I posted here in oct 2008 about “messing my head up on youtube”…see above for post

Just wanted to let y’all know i still listen to the same beat.

Recently my partner died and the binaural beat put me to sleep to day it happened, it seems to outweigh even the highest stressors.

I listen to it “almost” every day/night. I have spent some time researching this subject now and it all makes total sense. I only wish i could convince others of it’s power!.

The beats for lucid dreaming also work very well for me.

    the beat goes on!!!!
