I’ve been doing a bit of hurricane bill tracking these past few days. It’s not so much that I am into hurricane watching, or even that hurricane season affects me over here in the UK. That said, there’s something about powerful storms – and ever since Hurricane Katrina…well, we all know how that went. Sort of the mother of all hurricanes. I posted ages back about Hurricane Ike, and the distinct lack of media coverage which surrounded it. Hurricane Ike was in many ways as devastating as Katrina, yet it was covered by a media black out. You can see a short video regarding this below.

So I’ve gone that bit extra and followed this Hurricane Bill tracking, and appears to have reduced somewhat in temperament. That doesn’t mean a whole lot in itself though I guess. Anything can happen, and stranger things certainly have happened. I guess a lot of people will still be watching those tracking satellites.

Incidentally I find it somewhat amusing that Hurricane Bill tracking shows Hurricane Bill potentially approaching President Omaba’s vacation location. Life is full of symbolism and hidden messages…so I have to ask what the symbolism here may be. Interesting stuff. That said, with the potential of Hurricane Bill tracking downgrading the storm to a “tropical storm”, there may also be a form of symbolism in that.

Anyway here’s that video I mentioned. And let us hope that Hurricane Bill proves to be unremarkable.

Following on from Battlestar Galactica: Symbolism and Mythology, I wanted to write another piece on some of the many other subtle themes contained within the series. First I want to take a moment to explain that neither my previous piece on Battlestar Galactica nor this piece are intended as a ‘Galactica Deconstruction’; there are [...]

Mathematics

Nikola Tesla, was perhaps one of the greatest minds in modern history. The inventor of AC/DC current, radio, radar, and many other such things. He wanted to give the world free electric via towers that broadcast energy wirelessly, this was nearly one hundred years ago – he had the technology working but lost funding when investors realised he didn’t intend to make any profit from the technology.

Tesla once said that if you can understand the numbers 3, 6 and 9 than the mysteries’ of the Universe unlock themselves to you. The knowledge of sacred numbers isn’t unique to Tesla, but goes far back into antiquity. Numbers also form a part of the foundation of many secret societies, one of the most well known being the Freemason use of the number 33.

The connection with numbers in Battlestar Galactica is well established. In fact the first episode of season one is titled simply, ‘33’. In the final season, Anders calls mathematics ‘perfection’, which allows him to connect into the wondrous flow of the Universe. It is also implied that the Hybrids have vast knowledge due to their connection with the data-stream/universe. However such a connection lifts them to an entirely different plane of existence; they see reality very differently.

Mathematics is seen by many as a way to ‘deconstruct’ or ‘analyse’, whilst the truth is far from that. Mathematics allows you to see the flow of the Universe.

Understanding mathematics is one of the keys to reality – there are two other keys.

Music

The ancient church also understood the power of the numbers. Before the modern diatonic scale of music, another scale was much used – it was called the Solfeggio Scale, and was employed by the church within many of their Gregorian Chants. Very specific frequencies were used in the Solfeggio Scale, each dividable by 3, 6 or 9.

Each frequency/note was said to possess a specific attribute. Remember that this was understood many centuries ago; the note ‘Mi’ of 528hz was used for healing and ‘Transformation and Miracles’. Today that very same frequency – 528hz – is used for DNA repair.

Again Battlestar Galactica shows us the important of music upon the human race. It was music that ‘activated’ the final four Cylons, just as it was music in its mathematical form that led the thirteen colonies to Earth.

Geometry

Maths, Music and Geometry; these are the foundations of the Universe. Geometry and Time are necessarily connected, as time is inseparable from space. The effects of time dilation have played key parts in the story of Battlestar Galactica. Anders mentions in the episode ‘No Exit’ that when the Final Five travelled from Old Earth to the Twelve Colonies they were travelling at relativistic speeds,– hence they aged only a few years whilst thousands of years passed in the outside world. The same effect occurred during the exodus of the 13 Tribes from Kobol. Time dilation also may play a part in the return of Starbuck after she had been missing for two months, yet had only experienced a few days herself.

When Chief Tyrol was in the Temple of Five, he knew there was something he needed to understand about the temple. Temples, Churches and other such buildings are all constructed to specific measurements which take into consideration the connection between mathematics, geometry and music. This is known as Sacred Geometry.

Spirit and Soul

Traditions from the ancient East, speak of sacred energies within the human body. These are often referred to as the Chakra system. The energy which flows through the Chakra points of the body is known as Kundalini Energy, this energy is tied directly into sexual energy and is studied in the Tantric practices. Kundalini energy travels along the spine and up into the Crown Chakra at (or above) the top of the head. Cylons are shown to possess this same (or very similar) energy during a very early scene between Six and Baltar as well as a scene between Helo and Sharon.

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the show is how it depicts artificial intelligence and its relationship to the human condition. The human is a funny thing; it is unknown what makes us tick – we have an aspect within us that cannot be measured nor grasped yet we all experience it. We cannot tell another person what it is to experience life, no one can be told what it is – yet we all know because we each experience it. Some call this the ‘soul’. But the label is largely irrelevant. Within the series Six often claims to have a soul, as does the cylon Leoben on more than one occasion, this naturally causes much contention among the humans. After all how can machines have souls?

Yet the possession of a soul is not measureable. In one of his final talks, the philosophical and spiritual speaker Jiddu Krishamurti discussed this very subject. He pointed out the machine like activity of his listeners – asking that his words not be taken offensively – he points to each of our daily routines which are carried out without thought. Machine like. Later he talks of genetic engineering and then the development of artificial intelligence. He asked his listeners to consider what may happen when these two areas of technology finally meet; that the arrival of aware machines is inevitable. What then, he asks will be the difference between these machines and you?

‘And don’t say that you have a soul, because the machines will say that too.’

The possession of a soul is not measureable – it can only be experienced.

Eve

It is implied that Hera is the Mitochondrial Eve, the most recent common ancestor for all modern humans. Every one of us on Earth today can trace our genetic hereditary back to the Mitochondrial Eve, one of the first anatomically modern humans whom lived around 140,000 to 150,000 years ago.

The Bible speaks of the sons of the Elohim descending from the heavens to unite with the daughters of man.

It is only the rational mind that discounts the gap in the fossil record – the so called ‘missing link’. There are many who have long believed that the missing link is that there is no missing link. There are many historical documents which give this same account again and again.

There is a period of time in far history, when humans suddenly and unexplainably leaped from hunter-gathers, and settled down to construct habitats and learned to cultivate land. This is still a disquieting and unexplained phenomenon. Consider that during those times of pre-history, before humanity learnt to grow food there were no useable plants to take as crops. It is known that the first settled agricultures sprung up spontaneously at different points on the planet. It is also known that the wild plants which were then available could not have been used to create edible grain. The modern explanation for this is that before humans became agriculturalists – whilst we were still hunter-gatherers we learnt how to crossbreed various wild plants to develop the modern grain. This is a process which we still cannot achieve with modern technology. And it has been estimated that even by using the ‘cross-breeding’ method of wild plants – achieving an edible modern crop would have taken approximately 3,000 years. That’s quite a long-term plan for a people without language or symbols.

It is just as interesting to note that modern archaeology shows that all cultures on earth ‘suddenly began’. There is no evidence to support a gradual development of culture.

The world of Forbidden-Archaeology is literally littered with hundreds of unexplained cases like this. It is worth taking time to look into the many ‘out of place artefacts’ that have been discovered.

Something Greater

Baltar: ‘There’s another force at work here, there always has been. It’s undeniable, we’ve all experienced it, everyone in this room has experienced events that they can’t fathom let alone explain away by rational means…!’

Is reality infused with something hidden, intangible but greater than all of us? Is the universe merely a result of uncounted interactions of matter and energy, all explainable by the rational mind?

Is it both?

There are many things in reality that are more than the sum of their parts. When you deconstruct those things – you lose their essence. You cannot find the radio signal by deconstructing the radio. The static mind of those that analyse blind themselves to reality; Baltar a man of science displays a character entrenched within his own world view. A world of compartmentalization, rules, systems and science; these are the systems of humanity. Baltar mistakes his tools for reality. Science then is a way of describing something – but it is not the thing that is being described any more than a resume is the person.

Baltar: ‘Whether we want to call that God or Gods or some sublime inspiration or divine force that we can’t understand, doesn’t matter…doesn’t matter! It exists…’

Years later, after experiencing events that are beyond the rational mind, Baltar has learnt to step away from his tools and more importantly has escaped the all encompassing grip of his Ego. He starts to see the dynamic flow of the universe. He sees the essence of the universe – the essence which is greater than the sum of its parts. Everything is connected. Baltar begins to see the intangible, un-measureable lines which create those connections.

We live in a flow of seemingly disparate events – each of which can be analysed, broken down or labelled. We look outwards at the world, from the events that are nearest us to those that are furthest away. Thus we attribute the closest events as the most important and the distant as least important. Surely it is the opposite that is true. The events of the solar system – the current changes it is experiencing – events in the outer laying universe as stars, planets and entire galaxies move. These things are immeasurable against which our daily concerns are inconsequential. Thus Baltar turns his gaze, and starts to look from the outside, inwards towards his inner-being. Attributing more importance to those large unexplainable things which hold all of humanity within its hands, and then moving his focus inwards towards the events which are occurring around him and within him. Suddenly everything takes on an entirely new context; reality becomes understandable. He understands finally that just because something can be understood – it doesn’t follow that it can be explained.

Reality is immeasurable, it can only be experienced.

Thus the rational mind of the ego learns its place in the scheme of things – and the true Baltar emerges. A man of compassion.

Galactica shows us how to perceive the metaphysical world. A world that is dynamic, a world full of the unexplainable. A world that is not confined to the static mind of labels, analysis and rationalisation. Galactica then draws the lines which connect the invisible world into our lives, so that we may experience both the invisible and unexplainable as well as the visible and explainable. It turns reality on its head, throws everything into disarray causing us confusion – breaking our egos – until we finally realise that this is exactly how things are meant to be.

It tells us how we have become so absorbed with our tools and systems that we have lost our connection with reality. And as these systems are torn away over the course of the series, the survivors of the thirteen colonies finally understand. They cast away their technology, their ships, their systems and sciences. They cast away the collective ego of humanity and break the cycle. Returning to the tribal world of the past, except carrying with them all the knowledge and understandings their experiences have brought them.

Most people by now will have heard of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV, which was released on Tuesday this week. Far from being the devil spawned game of evil which many lay claim to – this game is perhaps the ultimate critique on modern society. Naturally the focus of all the hype is on the activities this game allows the player-character to perform, notably; car theft, murder, cop killing, sex with prostitutes and so on. That all sounds pretty grim and dark – but the fact this game connects with so many people speaks loudly.

However there is another layer entirely to the world this game depicts, though yet again this is often missed – because people are too focused upon Trivia (the actions the player can perform) and don’t really look at the Message (the ‘reality’ which the game world depicts).

Get into any car in the GTA game world, switch on the radio – and you will be faced almost instantly with an aspect of this message. Many of the radio stations within the game world display a constant in-your-face form of xenophobia, and hyper-commercialisation. To paraphrase one of the stations; ‘The station where we sell our soul for radio commercialisation!’ The adverts are just as over the top, in one such ad – an oldish guy can be heard, ‘I used to think there was something wrong with me, that maybe I was ill or gay. But then I discovered the electric-scooter and now I never have to walk again!’ The ad ends to the effect of; ‘The bright American Future; saving people from the hardship of walking!’

And that’s without even mentioning the constant onslaught of Terror messages, and terror alerts. Looking around one will find numerous references to the ‘Department of Homeland Peace Enforcement’.

It goes beyond satire – and into the realm of ‘in your face craziness’. The fact that some of us may find this sort of thing insulting should give us pause. Why would anyone be insulted by this? Perhaps it is too close to the truth?

Moving around the game world of GTA IV, one can see billboards with similar crazy messages – cola drinks being advertised in an overtly sexual fashion. Another example being car dealerships ‘AutoEroticar’. The game simply crosses the line which society has already walked right up to.

Nearly everyone in the game is an immigrant from somewhere or other – living in an ‘alternate’ New York. The main character, Niko – an Eastern European – is at a complete loss about this crazy Western American reality. Talking to a friend at one point about hardship in America, Niko says ‘You people don’t know what poor is.’

GTA IV is a world full of crime, drugs and war, where people bemoan the state of the world yet hurl threatening abuse at you if you so much as accidentally pull out on an oncoming car. It is a world gone awry where consumerism, materialism and the need for never-ending ever-increasing physical sensations of all forms outweigh any form of social drive toward a common community. Whilst Niko is clearly a criminal, as he runs around dispatching gang bosses, stealing cars and running people down – he resides in a world of insanity where people have lost all touch with reality, as they are swept away in a torrent of overwhelming media saturation, nihilism, and selfish narcissism.

Woe-betide a society like the one in GTA IV, we should consider ourselves fortunate it’s nothing at all like ours…

The media plays a funny game, they are purveyors of cultural ideology – and form one of the most addictive substances on the planet. The vast majority of people have a strictly regimented diet of news, which is usually taken in multiple forms. As with most drug-dependencies the users are aggressively unwilling to face their addiction. I really don’t think this is an overstatement of any sort.

I swore off perhaps 99% of my media addiction around 3 years ago. I cut off the broadcast TV into the house, we stopped buying news papers – eventually I even stopped checking news sites. Now, such is the saturation of media – that I still manage to hear much of the current events. You can’t walk into a store without noticing the headlines on the shelves. Conversations, radios and TV’s are overheard…and most events pour over into all areas of the Internet. If all that fails, then news events crop up in chats sooner or later. What I have found during these three years is that it is pretty hard to be ignorant of what is occurring in the world.

On the other hand there is something else that I have noticed, and I find this extremely interesting. Those who consume inordinate amounts of media are just as insensate to the real-world as those who consume inordinate amounts of drugs. These types are few and far between it is true – but they serve as an illustration of how far the mind can be manipulated.

I have found since my reduced media intake, that I have become less volatile to ‘controversial’ news stories. Over here in the UK immigration is a very big deal at the moment, and every few days such a news story will have numbers of people foaming at the mouth. Meanwhile a heated political story will turn people to arguing with each other. Yet withdraw yourself from the media-drug and suddenly you see that the media demands a vast emotional investment into their story driven version of reality. Once you unplug from their reality – the world takes on a different texture.

The danger with the media-drug is that it is sense distorting. It removes you from your immediate environment and concerns and places you elsewhere, in someone else’s life and someone else’s perspective. The media-drug subdues your own perspective and replaces it with another one. Let’s be clear here – when I talk about perspective, I am not talking about ‘opinion’ – I am pointing to something a little deeper. Our perspective is what reports physical reality to us; it keeps us in contact with our immediate environment. The media-drug implements itself in between our mind and our senses, we become concerned with what is going on ‘over there in another perspective’ and forget where we are.

It is true that such mind bending distortions are yet another symptom of drug usage.

Many may find this assessment pretty hard to swallow – and that is fine, it is after all based upon my own perspective. The fact it is a perspective founded upon a long-time non usage of the media-drug is perhaps neither here nor there.

In a culture where ‘drugs’ are seen as an enemy of the people (much less the state), I have found this an extremely provocative observational experience…

Everything is so noisy these days. I think it is an echo of what goes on inside people’s heads. Or perhaps the noise inside our heads is an echo of what is going on “out there” in the external world.

Sometimes it is very hard to find any tranquillity. Recently I started becoming aware of my thoughts whilst I sleep! It is a warm, fuzzy semi-lucid awareness, but even there in sleep, my mind is full of racing thoughts. I am aware to the level that I can feel the thoughts as they occur – there is no linearity to them, my awareness is only on each thought as it occurs. But the moment I wake up I can follow the string of thoughts back. An entire stream of them!

My conscious mind of course is elsewhere at the time of sleep; I was sleeping and wasn’t fully lucid. So where did I go – and if I had gone away somewhere, who’s thoughts were there in my head whilst I slept?

The thing of it is; when I am awake and supposedly fully lucid – the racing thoughts are still present. Carrying on in an uninterrupted manner – seemingly it doesn’t matter whether I am asleep or awake…I constantly have the same stream of unlinked garbage going through my head.

So how often do we mistake these thoughts for an actual thinking process rather than background noise? As I am writing this the humming of the air-conditioner is ever present in the background. Noisy minds are a little like that. The air-conditioner isn’t me either.

The world is full of noise – it over-powers the noise of our minds. In turn the noise of our minds over-power the noise of our lives. It doesn’t stop. Not even in sleep! It is very hard to be peaceful and focused, we aren’t allowed – everything stops us from doing so, including ourselves. We do not stop long enough to see what we are doing and who we are. The noise of the world around us, the noise in our minds – all of it distracts us, and like crazy people we associate ourselves with it. We identify inwardly and outwardly with what is nothing more than static. The static of the technology around us has only served to increase the amount of noise. Everything picks up pace and it is coming faster and more often with little letup.

Digital technology may have reduced the noise of old analogue static – the white snowy pictures on your TV. But it has replaced it with a quantity and volume that is impossible to keep up with. It doesn’t matter if you don’t watch it, and it does not matter if you don’t listen to it. It is all there – always in the background – or else being transmitted through the air and through your body.

Our thoughts are a bit like that too. We transmit them all over the place – in a sense we are like biological transmitters and receivers. We are all linked; strings of emotions and thoughts spread over the entire planet. We all pick up on them – we are hard wired into the human emotional / mental grid and we have got no firewall or protection. Heck most of us don’t even realise we are connected.

Is it like being superficial – but on the inside?

All surface and no real content?

That is the trick – the little sideways twist. Organised thought is not what it is cracked up to be. Connecting the points from A to B to C – it is how we are taught, and it is slow, tedious and often does not even work. Things get missed; we are like horses walking along with blinders. Tunnel vision. We can’t connect all the dots when we can’t see them.

Buried among the noise are a lot of dots, many useable and worthwhile – and some of not much use at all. We ignore them all because they sound like static, and A does not link to B. Sometimes A links to E, H or even Z. It doesn’t really make much sense to a mind that attempts to be organised and linear.

It probably explains the saying; “There is a fine line between madness and genius”.

There is something about linear thinking that makes me think of the story of Hansel and Gretel, leaving their trail of breadcrumbs so that they will not get lost. Anyone following those breadcrumbs would have ended up right at the witch’s house as well. Even an animal can follow an easily laid out trail.

Breadcrumbs. Carrot on a stick.

Rats in a maze.

The concept of linear thinking is fine in and of itself. But who lays out the breadcrumbs? Who told us which method of thinking is “okay” and which method is crazy, useless – insane even?

In the TV series X-Files, Fox Mulder was considered spooky – “out there”, and so he was relegated to the basement. There are a lot of interesting and useful dots in the basement of our mind. High flyers sit on the upper floors, developing systems of analysis, recording data and searching for those elusive connections. When Scully moved into the basement – ultimately she learnt how to make those connections intuitively; jumping from A to H to Y.

Is there a difference between the noise we as humans generate with our systems, laws, bureaucratic nonsense, media and our technology – and the noise of our inner minds? Is it possible that one set of noise is the static of the false world we have created – and the other set of noise is the signal of our reality, the Universe, our higher-selves, God?

The speed at which our lives move has gathered pace. The more dependant we become upon technology, the faster we go – the higher our expectations become. How many devices do you carry around on a daily basis? A cell phone, an iPod and / or PDA? Think about the devices in your home, a TV, DVD Player, Computer, Laptop, Phone, another TV, wireless routers. How much noise do they generate – how much media consumption do they provide?

It’s gathering pace; things are moving faster now. There is more noise in our minds than ever before. But our reality keeps pace, the faster our minds become capable of working, the more information we will receive – not just the information of our technology – but information from other living beings – and information from the Universe itself.

We can see more now, our mental capacities have increased. That is the gift technology has given us. For what will we use that gift? Further media consumption, to help us live our artificial lives?

Or maybe we can use the new found capacity to tune into the signal of our reality. It too has gathered pace – a quickening of information. A change in the fabric of our reality, we can feel it. The Earth is feeling it – and it is reeling, look around it is easy to see.

Listen to the noise, what is it telling you?

“Signs” is a pretty good movie – even if the acting is a little hammy in places. The most interesting thing about the film isn’t the alien invasion or the crop circles, but its comments on the nature of causality. This becomes apparent at the end with the movies ‘plot twist’, yet it is more than a simple twist; it is the entire point of the movie.

*Plot spoilers ahead*

Reverse causality – as the pairing of the words implies – is cause and effect in reverse. That is to say the effects precede the cause. That may seem crazy or based in fantasy, but the truth is that modern science recognizes this as fact in the field of quantum physics; on the sub-atomic scale it is often noted that effect can and does indeed precede cause.

Now our experience of time is linear and in what we perceive as a ‘forward’ motion. Time, on the other hand is not linear, so events can flow backwards and forwards in time. So when an event is flowing backwards whilst we are moving forwards – we see the event as reverse causality.

If you haven’t seen it for a while then it is worth watching ‘Signs’ again with this in mind. This principle is what Graham Hess realized at the end of the movie – it is what his wife asked him to ’see’ with her last words, as during that moment she stepped outside of linear time.

The movie cleverly embeds an idea that would otherwise be controversial within a B-Movie plot-line.

Right from the start of the movie there are Signs (the title of the movie doesn’t refer to crop-circles) of what is to come. Each of these signs are effects from the future cause. The odd behavior of the dogs, the girl Bo’s phobia of drinking water, Merril’s inclination to always swing in baseball (he says himself at one point, ‘It felt wrong not to swing’), and of course Morgan’s asthma.

People often experience reverse causality; “If I hadn’t been delayed, we would never have met.” We see these things as reasons. The implication in ‘Signs’ is that Bo’s phobia of water would lead to water being in the right place at the right time by the end of the movie. Yet there is another way of looking at; it is reasonable that a young girl would develop a phobia of water after witnessing the traumatic event at the end of the movie. Reverse causality means that Bo developed the phobia before the event occurred.

It’s an interesting premise, which can be applied within our lives. So much is down to how ‘in-tune’ we are with reality; as we develop our awareness we may begin to perceive synchronicity – and in fact this is a phenomena an increasing amount of people are starting to accept. The next stage in awareness is experience of reverse causality.

Keep a mental note of any unusual events which occur, you may be surprised to later notice their cause…

YouTube have set up a partner program allowing people to make money from the videos they upload. Naturally there are restrictions – copyright being the most obvious. At any rate, I find this interesting, because it is a part of the next step in the development of the corporate / individual hybrid.

As I talked about in the Human Cyberization post, there is an ongoing technological revolution where corporate products are increasingly integrating with the user. This allows us to effectively use the technology to create our own content. And of course that shifts the focus of what these gadgets are about. They stop being tools used for specific purposes – writing, communication etc. – and instead become lifestyle objects used to create a never ending supply of entertainment.

And that is where the corporations step back in; they have taken hold of this content-creation fad, and are guiding it, with iLife, Facebook, MySpace, cell phones and so on. On the first glance, it may appear that the power of entertainment has been taken out of their hands – and that is true to an extent. It all comes down to how we use and manage this technology, it actually has two faces, both of which can be broken down into a number of aspects. One face is that of the prosumer:

• Creating entertainment for the purposes of entertainment. How many YouTube videos are uploaded everyday? And how many of these serve a purpose other than simple distraction?

• Cell phones, texting, e-mail and instant messaging enable people to communicate on a constant basis. How much of this communication is effective and constructive, and how much of it is just noise?

• MP3 players are built into nearly everything now. How beneficial can listening to hours upon hours of music actually be?

You get the idea. To read those points it may seem as though I am being extremely negative, and I am actually highlighting the obvious; ‘entertainment’ has become all pervasive – it has actually begun to consume us – rather than us consume it.

That is the path of the human / corporate hybrid. Profit is made from us creating our own entertainment. On a deeper level, the technology is very addictive, and people often find themselves investing more and more time into it. In the end, it is a time-sink which serves little constructive benefit – yet at the same time enables us to empower the corporations behind the products.

But as I said earlier there are two faces to this, here are some aspects from the other side of the coin:

• With a bit of discernment, it is possible to access and be a part of a vast network of knowledge and experience. That in itself is utterly invaluable. The trick is avoiding the noise and locating the information and people who resonate with you personally.

• Creativity and self-expression can be taken to new levels – especially when the self-insulating nature of closed communities is overcome.

Those aspects and more and propel us to all new heights. So it’s very much about intentionally and consciously deciding how we what to access and use this evolution of technology. We can simply get swept away in the global tide of prosumerism, or we can use it to develop our understand and awareness of just about anything.

A few years ago, I had the misfortune of catching a particular TV advert (something I usually tend to avoid). With the growing trend of materialistic-spiritualism – I thought this a good time to comment on that advert…

The advert began with a view of a garage door…white text appears on the screen saying “Karen’s Dome”. The screen then progresses to another garage door, stating “Mark’s Chapel”…then another; “John’s Church”, then a forth “Clair’s Cathedral”. Finally, the screen goes to a garage door that opens, slowly a car moves out, accompanied by the words that slowly form…”For those that Believe”…then…”in driving.”

And thus our spiritual and ethereal development is cheaply brought. In our present scientific age where the spirit and soul are not taken seriously – or at best, seen as something indefinable – the impact of symbolism such as this shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Many people have trouble understanding and seeing just what exactly spirituality is. In truth it is a need within us as strong as the need to eat, to breathe…and works within us in the same manner as physically exercising the body. However, most cannot see this need until until it demands attention. Just as those that sit all day do not notice their level of unfitness until they run. It is when this need is discovered that a void is found, and the mind will begin on a quest of discovery. Eventually questioning the entire world around us, pulling apart its scientific reasoned construct, and realizing for the first time that our reasoned awareness is less than skin deep.

It is in this vein that the ethereal knowledge is discovered. When the right key is turned, when we ask an individual a pertinent question that causes them to look within and discover the ethereal. Not through being told, but rather by having their attention focused into a place that enables them to question their sure reasoned knowledge. This is where it begins, and inevitably the individual will be drawn onwards in self and universal discovery of ethereal knowledge that exists within us all.

So then, we are presented with a problem when the attention is diverted – not within to this spiritual realm – but rather towards materialistics that are given labels normally reserved for spiritual forces and learning of the soul. Very simply and smoothly we are shown that a Cathedral belongs to an Individual. That a realm of spirituality is in effect a possession of a person.

Such thoughts only further serve to harden the human free will; strengthening our resolve and hardened belief that our ego is a central aspect of the world. Sitting in my Cathedral, with my car as a spiritual vehicle…what precisely is there for me to learn?

But then neither the advert nor its concept are there to teach.

In the absence of self reflection we are bound to physicality. Thus this question can be posed; how far does physicality reflect reality?
