Distraction is Control

The methods of control are increasing day by day; some are subtle others are extremely overt. The media (yes I appreciate the irony) will tell you nearly all you need to know about this – but not just with what it says – and not even in what it doesn’t say. Rather you can find volumes in the people who have been watching and reading. The media incites our reactions; it brings out of us the very worst of our opinionated hostility. A new hot topic comes up on the evening news, the next day everyone will be talking about it over their lunch, or in the tea room, or whilst queuing in the bank. Everyone has their say, their opinion, and their “facts”. And we all choose our side of the argument based on what we have thought.
But…
Based on our own thoughts…or alternatively those thoughts expressed in the media? Are these really our own opinions – or merely unconsidered reactions based upon numerous pre-existing ideals and experiences fed to us from external sources?
Once again, the new Hot topic in the UK is ID Cards! The media is awash with the whole concept, and even your friend’s granny wants to talk to you about it. Should we have them, shouldn’t we have them? Are they good, are they bad? Are they control, are they freedom? Are they a help, are they a hindrance?
Are they black, are they white?
The pendulum jumps erratically, on one side of its swing people want ID Cards; on the other side of the swing people don’t want them. But the pendulum jumps from side to side, it doesn’t swing anymore – because it is broken you see. It merely pops into being on the right, and then pops into being on the left, whilst people stand on each side. Everyone on each side is hot and bothered, they are all shouting – they each believe themselves to be “right”. They have their opinions after all!
These poor people are already caught in the trap. It doesn’t matter whether ID Cards come or not; these people have already manifested their reality. And it is a reality of extreme polarity…a reality that is divided into two camps, one black, the other white. These two camps don’t really talk to each other; they just throw a lot of stones. In the future they will more than likely be throwing bombs and grenades. That is the future they are manifesting. One of conflict and hostility – no one wants to listen…they only want to talk, talk, talk. Because after all; they have their opinions!
On the other side of the Atlantic , control in another guise is creeping in. Yesterday, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that modems – and thus Internet Access – are no longer to be classified as a “telecommunications” device. The up shot being that Internet access will no longer be subject to key regulations that protect privacy and certain freedoms. In the future service providers will potentially have the legal right to deem exactly what you should and should not see on the ‘net, as well as monitor and divulge all your activity.
What will this mean for the future of the Internet? Well quite possibly it could be the slow decline of what it was – into a tightly regulated and controlled medium. Quite a pity.
The agents of control are all around us, they have their fingers in every pie. They listen and they watch – they take and they impose. And then our opinions are incited into frenzy, and as people divide themselves into groups of finger pointing, the agents sit back safely out the way. The people are left to argue among themselves.
But control of a more insidious nature is found here in; the control of your ego over your self! With everyone shouting and pointing – we wonder in our own minds, “So where do I stand in all this?” Maybe you love the idea of control, but your work associate detests the thought. So do you keep quite – and just go along with her? Or do you keep digging and pointing at her foolish ideas?
The ego is a bugger when it wants to express an opinion. But it merely wants to salve its own existence; giving in to its constant need for validation.
The trick then is not to be drawn in. Do you truly care about tightly regulated control systems? Maybe – yes. Do you feel your world, your life needs to change? Then manifest yourself a reality different to the one the masses would draw you into. If people close to you do not appreciate your lack of respect for their opinionated rules and beliefs, well then respect them for that – give them platitudes if needs be, and then be on your way.
The journey is always within. It is always interesting then, that so many distractions seek to make you look externally. To systems, to laws and rules. Towards other people. Distractions which only serve to evoke conflict.
People do have the power to change their life _and_ the world, we can make both so much richer. But the work has to begin within us, only after that can we take what we find and bring it to others and the world. There is a Shadow in all of us that seeks our attention, pay it some heed – you maybe surprised of the powerful lessons it has for you. There are also many other voices and influences, deep within us – and all around us. We only need look and listen, and for that we require inner calm and tranquillity. The world seeks forever to distract us from that single, simple goal.
For me – I no longer wonder _why_ …
