Eyes are Windows to the Soul

Attila over at Vertegram recently became a father of a beautiful little girl. It really is a wonderful feeling to become a parent, and it got me thinking about the birth of my daughter again. The little tyke is no longer crawling - she actually started walking at a mere 9 months, I was so proud of her for that! So now she runs circles around everyone, and enjoys speeding away from all her friends giggling as they attempt to catch her. Seeing her personality emerge really is a lesson in life’s development - it is one of the greatest lessons I have had in showing where and how our personality comes from.

When she was born, like most babies she had the most amazingly deep-blue eyes. The thing I noticed most of all though - was that those eyes held no barriers, they were so clear and true. Looking into them led to a different realm that went to somewhere before this physical world. That perhaps more than anything else is proof of both the spirit and the soul. Her eyes remained like that for a few weeks, before slowly change came to into her gaze as she became increasingly conscious of the physical world.

Now-a-days her personality and temperament is very much present in her eyes. It is a distinction between seeing into the soul and seeing into the spirit. You look long enough into someone’s eyes chances are you will see their soul, most people though show just their spirit. Whilst with a few you don’t even get that. Over the years it all gets crushed under the unbearable weight of the ego.

The eyes are perhaps the quickest way to learn about another person, they hold their life’s story. And at the very least the most dominant aspects of the personality is always clearly present in the eyes. What is in the eyes reflects what is in our thoughts. That difference between what is in the eyes of a newborn and an adult is simply down to experience, thoughts…and what the ego carries with it. That may sound obvious, but the point is that we try and consider what our Soul is from the perspective of what we believe our thoughts and experiences tell us.

A baby really doesn’t have much in the way of thinking thoughts or experience. It simply exists and that is why you can see straight into their soul. If only a baby could speak - what would they tell us about reality, consciousness and soul?

It’s true that we are here to experience the physical side of reality. It’s just very sad that all too often our physical perspective over-rides all else. The point in spiritual and self development is to bring balance between our awareness of the physical world, and the awareness we had as a newborn. On the one hand it is about learning to experience new things (the physical) whilst on the other hand we learn to remember what we have forgotten (the spiritual). Conscious Thinking is a great place to start with this. Perhaps there are other techniques that have worked well for you?

Oh, those blue eyes … I just can’t have enough of them! :) I am seeing her dreaming (at least it looks like from the REM) and I’ve been wondering what can a small baby dream about…

Absolutely wonderful isn’t it! I remember thinking the same thing; “What is she dreaming?”

I guess they just experience such a different world to us. Birth is still a fresh experience, memories of the womb. A world full of light and strange sound. Really does make me wonder how that plays out in their minds…
