Future Earth

The future is a fickle thing, all throughout the history of earth – concepts of what constitutes the “future”, have radically differed. What we perceive as the future very much depends on the aspects of life and reality we perceive in the present. So, a future earth, not in the too far distance, but a few decades – maybe 30 years. Where will we be? Where will our future consciousness be? I have been considering this again and again recently; my thoughts have mainly been along the lines of how technology will affect our awareness and consciousness. Already over the past decade there has been a dramatic change within individual and mass consciouses, primarily due to the arrival of cell phones and the Internet. The future then, would depend upon which direction future technology heads in.

Bluetooth ImplantSticking to recent times, and without going too far back – the cell phone was perhaps one of the first steps where we really began to merge with our technology, to the point that technology was carried everywhere. Who can deny that the endless permutations of bluetooth devices are but one or two steps away from full blown implants?

The Internet is slightly more subtle, in that it is the first independently evolving non-physical space. It’s physical components do not mirror its contents, just like the human mind is more than the sum of its parts. The Internet then, could perhaps be considered humanity’s mass “external memory device”. And in many ways it sure is used in such a way. A collective knowledge / memory bank (also containing shared experiences) which we plug ourselves into.

Multiple Aspects of the Future Human

So above we can consider two separate aspects of the “cyber-human” evolution. Physical enhancements in the form of devices we plug into our physical body or brain. And non-physical enhancements, in the form of virtual cyber-realms – external knowledge banks, leading to the possibility of sychnronised memories.

The following video shows that human-cyberisation is now a reality:

The true implications of such cybernetic advances will become apparent when the technology allows for easy interfacing with us. When it can be simply “plugged in” so-to-speak. What happens to human consciousness when we can wirelessly interface with external memory devices, shared knowledge and synchronised memories?

Alternate paths of Future Earth

Of course such physical enhancements are but one potential facet. Another is the current rapid development of nanobots. Microscopic machines that can enter the human body and provide physical and mental enhancement at the cellular level. If you have time (it’s quite long) I recommend watching the follow clip:

Technology and it’s affect on human consciousness is something that I have decided to make an ongoing series. It has massive implications on our current and future spiritual, emotional and physical evolution and it really is a fascinating subject.

Aloha, thanks for your comments; from what I’ve read so far your blog/thoughts are along a similar vein and I’m happy to find you as well! This post was quite interesting, I find the topic of transhumanism a potentially frightening aspect of our future, but it seems to be coming like it or not.
    Mahalo!

Thanks for the link, and the comments!

I agree that this vision of the future is quote frightening. Well, I find that I can accept the idea of cyberisation to some extend. Part human, part machine remains compensable to some extent.

But what about those nanos? They plug themselves into your nervous system, send you off to a virtual world. How would you know when you wake up in the morning, that you have really woken up?

the problem I see with these vison are how exclusive of the world out human domaint there.
I can see a future in which theglobel warming trends contiune . In my veiw this warming is more a nature cycle that is being excellerated by human industrial activity.

I notice how all the environment are worrying about the different amnimal groups which are facing decline. but I wonder if any of them have notice the ohther set which semmm indifferent to these devlopment
e.g the intriducution ot the burmess python to florida . tHSE ANIMAL ARE SET TO TAKE ROOT IN THE UNITED STATES. and by extention snakes( reptiles) seem not to be on the decline but maintaining there numbers,

IN addition animal like the vulture and other animal like it seem to be doing quite well .

If after we become heavy dependence on genetic moderifided crops a for our surival , and there ia is a seruos failure in production of food either by crop diseases , mankind will fall. thus thses other animal will take over. now I can see a future of this world in exsitance ,without humans and still triving , with or without globe warming ,, now with the 11 year solar cycle expected to began around 2010 , I beleive we will be the frist generation to witness the north pole melt in the summer of one of those years,
I dont see world wide catasphoty LIKE that we have been educated to beleive thing will still be thing as it is today , by it will be the ultimate wake up called for all of us.
