Repeating Patterns of Behaviour

One thing I have noticed again and again is how our behavior repeats itself - I have noticed this occurring with myself and the people I know. This isn’t so much about the repeating daily routines we have, although it is probably related. Instead it is a pattern which repeats itself over larger periods of time. When you step back and take a look at our behavior over the time period of one or two years, a number of things become immediately apparent.

Once I started paying attention, I realized that every winter I tend to move into a period of deep self-reflection, this ultimately causes me to move along a number of paths which influence and alter my ‘reality-tunnel’. In essence my perspective of the world changes. In the summer I tend to move into a period of physical interests; sports, gardening etc. As I look back over my life, it has pretty much always been that way. Winter becomes a state of inner focus whilst summer is a state of outer focus. Of course this hasn’t always manifested in the same sorts of activity. In my teenage years for example it would have resulted in pub-crawling or else sitting in and watching loads and loads of tv. Later that became going out with friends and meeting girls or staying in and learning something or other.

So whilst the activity may have changed, it was always about the switching between inner and outer focus. Same story different book.

For a long while I always felt that it was simply to do with the time of year; winter being a time of reflection because it encouraged ‘indoor’ activity. I see it somewhat differently now though; whilst the season undoubtedly plays its part - the overarching issues seems to be very much one of psychological make up, mental disposition - all of which are heavily influenced by our conditioning.

This is one of the reasons many people go through the same sorts of relationship issues again and again. We unconsciously recreate certain cyclic situations. The surprising thing is that more people don’t actually notice this. Once you see it, it’s actually very obvious and certainly something which bares more consideration.
