The Obsession of Possession

Where would be all be with obsession? The human race is a pretty obsessive bunch, and to be perfectly frank about it - it is undoubtedly that obsessiveness which has brought us to this place in history. Obsession causes us to chase, and pursue our aims and agendas - lacking the obsessive trait, humanity would still be living in the depths of Africa or Sumeria.
I think most of us have been obsessive at one point or another. It is a trait which is viewed in a fairly negative light - yet it is also a trait which gets some pretty hefty rewards. How many successful business owners got where they were without at least a little obsessiveness? In a culture of materialism, ownership and possession - being obsessive becomes somewhat of a necessity. Even if it is the obsession over money, or wanting quiet time.
But then I am perhaps laying it a bit thin - a desire, or a strong want, is not the same as obsession. Not by a long shot. Obsession is blind, driven, and utterly relentless. As I said - that’s what got humanity where we are. But when I consider this, I keep coming back to how closely related obsession is with the idea of possession. No, I am not talking about materialism this time - but rather the spirit, or demonic type.
Any strong personality trait we exhibit for any length of time (especially negative ones), tend to fragment away from our ‘conscious’ personality. That is, such traits become independent elements of our being; separate ‘entities’ if you will, which live inside us - and take control whenever their traits are perceived to be required.
Anger leads to an inner ‘demon’ with fearful aggressive and temperamental traits. A person with such a ‘demon’ lurking inside, often spontaneously erupts into massive fits of anger. But what happens when obsession is driving those particular personality traits?
Obsession is blind, driven, and utterly relentless.
Combine that with the negative traits an inner ‘demon ‘ - especially a strong one - and you have something which should not be underestimated. ‘The Obsession of Possession’. Simply put, it leaves me thinking that this may well account for at least a fraction of true demonic possessions.
