Thought of the Day

At one point or another, thought loops plague most of us. More often than not, this can be a daily occurance; yesterday it was thoughts of that situation at work, today it is a thought about finances. It is totally infuriating to have those quotes cycling around your head on a day-to-day basis, and to be honest it is less than inspirational. What is funny in many respects, is that the joke is on us - and I don’t mean that in a disparaging way. Let me explain. Generally people tend to accept things at face value - or at the very least, we look at the external side of things. That is to say, a person’s thoughts aren’t always given the consideration they should be. After all it is what we say that is considered most important, especially if - in that saying - it can be viewed in a positive or motivational light. Such words often fail to give any insight as to what is going on under the hood.

The problem with this perspective on life, is that it doesn’t allow us to tackle our thoughts very easily. When we spend our life looking outwards all the time - we find ourselves standing in front of a metaphysical mirror - and it becomes very difficult to separate our thoughts from what is going on around us. What happens is that we automatically objectify our thoughts, we attempt to deal with them as though they are something physical. And so they take on the appearance of something “real”; quotes written in red on that metaphysical mirror. This isn’t a very positive way of dealing with them.
So how can we handle these sort of thoughts on a daily practical basis? The first step is to realise that these thoughts actually hold no power over us. They are not “us” any more than the colour of our shirt. This can take a while to realise, but meditation will help, also trying some form of meditative audio is great. This is one technique that will allow you to understand that such thought loops actually arise from our sub-conscious mind, and are very much an aspect of our Shadow Self.
When we work with ourselves in such a manner, the thought loops eventually give way to the emotions that are underlying them. And this brings us another step closer to discovering that many thought loops are a result of emotional scars. Thus we can face those emotions, and begin to work with them as well. It may be surprising to find that many of our thought loops are related to such deep etched scars. Most often these scars can be traced back to singular incidents or events - those that haunt, coming back again and gain.
That then leads eventually to the difficult part. Facing these scars, acknowledging them - not so that you can be rid of them - but so that you may integrate them into your being. That is what they are fighting for, acknowledgement. Each one being unique and requiring its own handling - as there is no universal solution. Slowly, one by one - as these scars are unveiled and dealt with - the old thought loops begin to fade into the background. Becoming something random and only occasional. And then - eventually the mind finds itself in peace.
